Root Canal Toronto

Today with modern dentistry and technology, root canal therapy has become a common form of treatment for diseased (abscessed) teeth. This treatment can be provided by your North York Dentist or Endodontist (Root Canal Specialist).

Root Canal Therapy is done once the tooth is injured, cracked or decayed, it is necessary to open and clean out the infected tissue in the center (pulp). During the root canal treatment, your North York Dentist or Endodontist will remove the pulp (infected tissue) from the center of the tooth and fills the space with composite material. During this procedure the area around the tooth will be frozen. It is important to remove the infection as soon it occurs to prevent severe pain and to prevent the infection from spreading to other teeth.

After the root canal is complete, your North York Dentist will recommend a Dental Crown on that tooth. Your Endodontist will refer you back to your North York Dentist to complete the prosthetic phase (Dental Crown). Since the nerve has been removed and there is no longer a blood flow and the tooth is susceptible to fracture/breakage as the tooth has weakened. A Dental Crown will provide full coverage, support and strength.

Nitrous Oxide is also an option for patients who are anxious, nervous, scared and would like to be put at ease during the procedure. Please ask your North York Dentist

Treatment Options:

If there is an infection that has already occurred, there are only two treatment options available as indicated above. If you have an infected tooth, bacteria from the mouth can enter the bloodstream and cause infections in other parts of the body. Antibiotics may be prescribed before proceeding with treatment.
